We are absolutely heartbroken to be rehoming our 19 month old pet, Bear. We are doing this with his best interests at heart as he is not getting the one on one time and attention that he requires. Experienced border collie owners only and would be ideally best suited to a farmer who is able to train him up to work as he seems to have a strong desire for this. He has been a house pet up until now and has been raised around young children and other dogs and although he is absolutely fantastic around them, a home where no kids would be preferred as he really needs 1 on 1 attention. Bear is the most affectionate, intelligent, sweetest dog however he has some reactive issues and this means he is a barker when neighbors dogs bark, door goes, fireworks go off etc. He has shown some behavioural issues mainly around being scolded when he knows he has done something wrong (jumping onto counter stealing food, he is told off, tends to growl and show teeth) this admittedly is not something we have the capacity to deal with as this is going to take time and a build up of trust and positive reinforcement techniques to rewire his response. We have young children in the house and unfortunately cannot take any risks. He is by no means an aggressive dog by nature and he seems to have moments of 'aggression' for want of a better word when he feels defensive and this would really require someone patient and very experienced with the breed. The behavioural issues are a suspected mix of hormones with him being adolescent and most likely not getting the correct outlets like being worked or playing enough herding games. Bear is house trained. He is reactive to traffic so being walked through more remote area or park is preferable for him. He has been health checked and is fit and healthy with no known issues. His flea/worming/vaccines are up to date. He is a very well cared for, beloved family pet and this is a very last resort for us to try and give him a life he deserves and a life that we cannot give him due to our own personal circumstances.
